Residue is a body of work that explores natural materials and human energy.

The work is made from clay, pigment, hair cuttings, string, wax and remnants of other materials particularly hessian,   which I cut, tear, burn and wrap in a cycle of creating and destroying.  I use clay mixed with these materials to form a daub which is applied to the pieces along with found objects from the streets of Sheffield.  The willow in the 3D pieces has been grown and cut in my allotment and I’ve woven them into structures.  These are physical processes:  digging the clay, cutting the willow and the manipulation of the materials.

The finished pieces are evocative of ancient artefacts which seem to have uncovered signs of human activity from another time and place.
